(Uruguay, 1961).
Marcelo Legrand extracts from the stain something essential, vital and with it he builds the architecture of his painting. In 1977 he began his painting studies at the Circulo de Bellas Artes with the teacher Héctor Sgarbi. Starting in 1981 and throughout a decade, he dedicated himself exclusively to working with graphite on paper. With this work, he obtained multiple awards and an invitation from the Camnitzer studio (Italy) to carry out a residency in Italian Tuscany.
In 1992 he is invited to exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas (Sofia Imber) and settles in Venezuela for three years. By then he takes up the color and develops and investigates a technique that includes the use of heat, water and Chinese ink on tracing paper.
On his return to his country, he delves into the vegetal papers that he had explored in Venezuela, investigates engraving, makes a series using paste discs as matrices and dedicates himself to paint large format fabrics.
