Pablo Uribe (Montevideo, 1962). He lives and works in Uruguay. He studied architecture at the University of the Republic and visual arts with Guillermo Fernández. He represented Uruguay at the 53rd Venice Biennale. In 2016 he received the XXI Figari Prize, awarded in recognition of his career.
His work explores the various relationships that make up the practice of art. His research extends towards a questioning of the implicit neutrality in artistic production, exhibition spaces and their collections. This activity has resulted in the study of the links between subjects and objects, whose stories —real or fictional— reach the point of questioning his role as author.
In a continuous shift between roles and formats, he has used historical, literary, architectural, musical, and theatrical references. His staging, reworkings, montages, impressions or superimpressions seek to invade the sensitive domain of the viewer to operate intentional changes in his memory and imagination.
